Presagen launches new AI service

Australian artificial intelligence company Presagen has launched a new service designed to evolve the development of AI products in healthcare.

Presagen made the announcement at the global conference for healthcare disruption, HLTH, where they are participating in a delegation led by leading Australian digital health accelerator, ANDHealth.

Presagen’s AI Open Projects is an online platform designed to connect clinics globally to crowdsource globally diverse datasets needed to build AI medical products.

Presagen said companies can benefit through royalties without having to carry any technical or commercial cost and risk.

It added the product has already generated value through Australian start-up Life Whisperer.

Life Whisperer aids clinicians to identify which embryos are more likely to lead to a pregnancy for couples undergoing IVF treatment. It has shown to perform 25 per cent better than current manual methods.

“To build AI products that solve global problems, you need a global dataset which is diverse and represents different types of people and clinical settings," said Presagen CEO Dr Michelle Perugini.

"This is challenging because data privacy laws can prevent private medical data leaving the country of origin. As a result, many focus on building AI from local datasets that are not diverse, creating AI that will be biased and simply will not scale.”

According to Presagen co-founder Dr Jonathan Hall, “Collectively a globally diverse dataset has the potential to create the world’s most powerful and globally scalable AI, and ultimately improve healthcare outcomes for patients around the globe.”

ANDHealth Founder and managing director, Bronwyn Le Grice, said, “Access to real-world data and cutting edge technology are critical drivers of developing new algorithms and machine learning technologies which can fundamentally change our understanding and management of how to best address health challenges.

"Presagen’s AI Open Projects platform has already demonstrated that it can generate clinically significant outcomes through the Life Whisperer technology, and I’m delighted to see that platform being made available to other clinics around the world.”
