nib has earned a top 100 spot in the Thomson Reuters D&I Index that ranks the most diverse and inclusive companies worldwide.
The Hunter Valley-based private health insurer was ranked at 88 globally and came fourth in Australia for its work in creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.
Managing director Mark Fitzgibbon said the accolade was recognition of nib’s efforts to embed diversity and inclusion across the organisation.
“We believe that it’s vitally important that we embrace diversity within our workforce, not only through the traditional lens of gender, age or culture, but also through the encouragement and support of diversity of thought, experience and ability,” said Mr Fitzgibbon.
“By creating an inclusive work environment that celebrates diversity we can also increase employee engagement which leads to better performance and employee satisfaction.”
The Thomson Reuters D&I index measures the relative performance of more than 7,000 companies across the world against four key categories – diversity, inclusion, people development and news controversy.
nib’s first appearance in the index saw the company place fourth in Australia behind Woolworths, Orica and CSL. nib’s strong female employee representation and policy for driving diversity and equal opportunity helping to achieve an overall score of 68.25 out of 100.
nib also recently became one of just 14 organisations added to the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ list of firms where at least 30 per cent of directors are women. Currently, 67 per cent of nib’s non-executive directors are female.
