Cura Day Hospitals – Australia’s largest owner of day hospitals – has announced the appointment of Andrew Currie as its new chief executive officer.

Mr Currie was most recently the chief operating officer of the Dubai-based healthcare delivery company Evercare Group.

He previously served Healthscope as the state manager of 22 hospitals in Victoria, Western Australia and Tasmania.

Cura Day Hospitals chairman Dr Keith Zabell said that the board of directors was delighted to have confirmed Mr Currie for this role following an extensive global search.

“Andrew has demonstrated a commitment to the delivery of shareholder value and key financial outcomes including revenue and EBITDA improvement,” said Dr Zabell.

“His extensive knowledge of hospital management coupled with his substantial experience in Mergers & Acquisitions will be fundamental in the continuation of Cura’s future growth strategy,” he said.

Dr Zabell also acknowledged the contribution of outgoing CEO Peter Freeleagus.

“Peter has worked tirelessly since the company’s inception to foster meaningful relationships with our Doctors, staff and other key stakeholders and also supported Cura’s interests and visibility in the Private Hospital Industry overall.

"Under his stewardship Cura has prospered and grown into Australia’s largest day hospital group with a portfolio of 24 hospitals and as a direct result, Cura is now in a very positive position to continue its rapid growth trajectory and provide first-rate medical facilities and services for our patients and Doctors,” said Dr Zabell.
