New health officials prepare to front Senate Estimates for the first time

The Department of Health and Aged Care will front the Senate's Community Affairs Legislation Committee today for Budget Supplementary Estimates.

It will be the first appearance at a health Estimates hearing of secretary Blair Comley PSM, who succeeded Professor Brendan Murphy AC in July.

It will also be the first appearance of Tony Lawler since he succeeded John Skerritt as TGA head in June.

The one-day hearing follows the recent release of the 2022-23 Final Budget Outcome and the department's annual report.

Outcome 2, which includes the PBS, Medicare, private health insurance, hearing and dental services, has been allocated just 45 minutes.

A significant portion of the day has been allocated to Outcome 1, including immunisation, health protection, and workforce.
