Medtronic has officially opened its new Australasian headquarters in the Sydney suburb of Macquarie Park.

The building, previously occupied by AstraZeneca, has been modernised and transformed. It now features state-of-the-art training and education facilities for healthcare professionals, patients and staff, and accommodates 300 employees but also acts as a 'central hub' for its additional 500 employees located across Australia.

NSW Minister of Health and Minister of Medical Research, Brad Hazard, officially opened the new headquarters earlier this week.

Other attendees included Geoff Henderson and Shiloh Collins, two Australians living with Medtronic technology who have meeting rooms named after them, as well as representatives from the medical device and pharmaceutical industries, and advocacy groups.

“The future of healthcare requires new approaches and innovations, and we believe that our new facility enables the delivery of this promise to patients across the country," said Jamie Stanistreet, vice president and managing director of Medtronic Australasia.

"Medtronic has been part of the fabric of Australia’s healthcare system for more than 40 years and we continue to be at the forefront of medical device innovation, challenging ourselves to develop high-quality therapies that positively impact people’s lives.

"Through new and different partnerships, we’re bringing decades of experience to bear in improving outcomes that matter to patients. We are also going beyond therapies and devices, using our technology and expertise — and training resources — to help physicians and hospitals provide better, more efficient care.”
