Medibank launches new rewards program

Medibank has launched its new Live Better rewards with members who hold eligible hospital or extras cover now able to earn and redeem rewards.

Live Better tracks and measures activities. It also rewards eligible Medibank customers for making small healthy changes such as getting an early night, cooking a nutritious meal, meditating, walking with a friend, or visiting the dentist.

The company said in an industry first, its eligible customers could earn Live Better reward points and use them towards a gift card, savings of $200 on their health cover, or get more on their extras.

According to chief customer officer David Koczkar, the company's customers have been wanting more value from their health cover, and to be rewarded for taking actions to improve their quality of life.

“The app takes a holistic approach under the pillars of ‘eat, move, feel’. We believe this is what sets Live Better rewards apart. We recognise improving health and wellbeing is more than running up a hill – it could be meditating at lunchtime, yoga, swapping a sugary drink for water or going screen-free before bed. Making small changes can improve your quality of life. Every little bit counts,” said Mr Koczkar.

“Early feedback on the app has been really positive. Personally, it has helped me stay focused on getting to the gym more regularly, I've read more books in the past few months than all of last year and I'm drinking more water. Plus, I'm getting rewarded for it!”

Eligible Medibank customers will soon be able to earn Live Better rewards points by shopping with partners such as Amcal Pharmacy, Fitbit, onsport.com.au, Brooks Running, and HelloFresh, with earning through adidas, Voome and Michelle Bridges’ 12WBT to follow.

“We’re excited to partner with these leading brands, who share our focus on preventative health,” added Mr Koczkar.

“Medibank customers will soon be able to redeem points for an Apple Watch and can now redeem points on gift cards to purchase products such as adidas active wear, products and services from Amcal pharmacies, Brooks Running shoes, HelloFresh meal kit plans, a new Fitbit and more.”

Once downloaded, users can sync their wearable devices and health apps to Live Better rewards, answer some wellbeing objectives, and receive personalised recommendations and health content. The app also measures progress and enables users to set challenges with friends.

“We’re also pleased to announce our partnership with Smiling Mind, who have developed Australia’s leading mindfulness meditation app, which will be integrated with Medibank Live Better rewards in coming months,” continued Mr Koczkar.

Through Live Better, ‘feel’ points can also be earned through acts of kindness, taking part in group challenges and participating in community activities.

“We know the negative effects of social isolation on physical and mental health. Being with others and sharing common interests can lead to feeling happier and more connected. It also encourages those closest to you to take more of an interest in their own health and wellbeing,” added Mr Koczkar.
