The federal government has reappointed Professor Robyn Ward AM as chair of the Medical Services Advisory Committee.

MSAC is an independent but non-statutory committee that considers and advises the federal government on whether new medical services and technologies should be funded through Medicare.

Professor Ward is an oncologist and cancer researcher. She currently serves as executive dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) at the University of Sydney.

Professor Ward has previously held senior academic positions at UNSW Sydney and the University of Queensland.

She has chaired MSAC since 2009 and recently stepped down from the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee, the statutory PBS equivalent of MSAC, after 18 years.

The government also reappointed one of the deputy chairs, Professor Kwun Fong, until December 2022. He is thoracic and sleep physician at The Prince Charles Hospital and Professor with the University of Queensland School of Medicine.
