Today marks the fifth anniversary of Greg Hunt's appointment to the health portfolio.
On 18 January 2017, former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull announced Mr Hunt's move to health from the industry and innovation portfolio he had occupied since 2016. He previously served in the environment portfolio.
Mr Hunt succeeded Sussan Ley in health and spent his first months in the portfolio securing formal agreements with a range of stakeholder groups, including the biopharmaceutical and medical device sectors.
His tenure has been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic with the need to secure vaccines, treatments, ensure testing capability and adopt changes such as the funded delivery of telehealth services.
Mr Hunt announced his retirement from politics late last year. He has served as the member for the Victorian seat of Flinders since 2001.
